USGS Earthquakes (Olyport)

Streamable-HTTP MCP server exposing real-time earthquake events from the US Geological Survey. Hosted at mcp.olyport.com/earthquake/mcp; part of Olyport's portfolio of MCP lanes for current-events / disaster data.

Verified: 2026-05-13 (mcp-registry-ingest-2026-05-13+enrich-capability-skill)

When to use USGS Earthquakes (Olyport)

Choose if

You want a one-tool MCP for live USGS earthquake events inside an agent loop — news-monitoring, disaster-alerting, or research agents that need a structured seismic-event lookup without parsing the USGS GeoJSON feed yourself. Streamable-HTTP transport keeps round-trip fast in the host.

Avoid if

You need authoritative real-time alerting with SLAs — go straight to USGS (earthquake.usgs.gov/fdsnws/event/1/ or USGS PDL). Also avoid if you need multi-disaster context (DaedalMap covers earthquakes + 7 other disaster types in one runtime). Maturity is uncertain — vendor homepage was down at verification, so don't make this the only path for a production alerting workflow.

Risk Flags

  • MEDIUM maturity Single-vendor (olyport.com) wrapping of the open USGS earthquake feed. Homepage returns HTTP 521 (origin unreachable) at verification time, suggesting infrastructure may be intermittent. The MCP endpoint separately verified live via initialize. Treat as experimental.
  • LOW scope Earthquakes only. Olyport advertises multiple lanes (separate MCPs per data type); this record covers seismic events. For tsunamis, hurricanes, etc., look at sibling Olyport MCPs or DaedalMap.
  • LOW auth Registry entry does not surface auth method. USGS upstream data is public, but the hosted MCP may rate-limit or require keys; check before production use.
